Contrary to popular opinion, adopting a healthy infant in most of the United States is not that difficult, although some states have laws more friendly to adoption than others. California law, for instance, is "adoption friendly" and I can help couples who live in most other states. It is not necessary to look overseas for a safe adoption.

Successful adoptions are usually the result of a good match between adopting parents, birth parents and lawyer. Within that relationship, each party has a role to play. Adopting parents will need, among other things, to undertake certain expenses and advertising.

Birth Parents
Most birth mothers and (sometimes) birth fathers look for a happily married, financially secure, loving couple to adopt the baby. A few have specific requirements for their "dream couple," but most just want a really good family. The most successful adoptions occur when the right birth mother comes together with the right adopting parents. But not all adopting and birth parents are right for each other.

Since none of us can read minds, an adopting couple's greatest protection in finding and working with the right birth mother lies in the experience of their attorney. The longer counsel has been in the field, the more successful adoptions he or she has handled, the more warning signs he or she has learned, the safer his clients are.
